Invasion of Religion

Last night a salesperson came to our house, trying to sell us a vacuum cleaner. I thought that the door to door trend went extinct in the late 90's, so it was very weird for me. He was friendly, a little too friendly...but what ever he thought would score him a sale, right? Honestly, I think that door to door salespeople are invasion of privacy. I would never let one in. In fact, the only people I would let into my house was people I already knew from school or work, or people from businesses like a cable company or a gas company that had an appointment to come over. This is because I am a very private type of person. Partly because my spirituality tends to make people so uncomfortable that they feel the need to talk about theirs, and partly because I don't like dealing with bullshit.
So, he was invited in to talk about the product he was trying to sell, and then he began to try and sell his religion on top of it....
"What are two things you don't want in your house?" he began to say.
"Dirt and dust," my sister said.
"Close, but it's dirt and the devil." and then he laughed. Yes, it was a clever line, but it was completely unnecessary. Not only did that line offend me, and make my sister look at me with worried eyes, but it kind of put a damper on his sales chance. Yes, we live in the bible belt, but that's just a name. There are Pagans in the south.
I personally don't believe in the devil, I believe that the concept of the devil was made up by Catholicism when they were converting Pagans to make them afraid. The "devil" is 5% guilt trip and 95% bullshit. If anything were to be a manifestation of the devil it would be mankind. Mankind is what is causing all of these bad things to happen, not some made up "astral" being that lives in a lake of fire.
I was about to tell him a few things about religion....but I just kept my mouth shut and tried to leave the room. To whit he tried to keep me in the room by blocking me and petting my dog that I was trying to take back to my room.
I have a strong dislike for salespeople. If I want to buy a product, I'll go out and buy it. Leave me alone, leave my door alone....and you better be sure to leave your religion at home, if you're not a pastor don't preach to people at work. You never know what their religion or spirituality is, and you could be really offending them.
